Hello, I have a unique problem. I have an ECS 865G-M8 Motherboard with a Phoenix Technologies Bios Version 6.00PG. I would like to know if there is an update for this BIOS. The reason I am searching for it is because every time I try to install XP PRO on the machine it reboots randomly during the install and restarts the setup. I tried using a new version of XP (2010) and the same problem arises. After searching through vast amounts of garbage I have come to the conclusion that the BIOS may need updating for this install to work. Here are the specs of the current BIOS:

BIOS Type: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG

BIOS ID: 11/02/2006-865G-ICH5-6A79AE19C-00

BIOS Date: 20061102

BIOS Vendor: Phoenix Technologies, LTD

BIOS Version: 6.00 PG

BIOS Size: 524288

Chipset: Intel 2570 rev 2

OEM Sign-on: 865G-M8 Ver 1.0g 11/02/2006

Base Product: 865G-M8

sounds more like something else like: bad RAM (use memtest86. it comes with every good linux distribution for free), poor power supply (buy something 80+ at least), blown capacitors or overheating components (cpu, gpu, northbrigde?).

while you're testing the memory with memtest86: boot the linux distribution (ubuntu has a live mode, too) and report back on how your system behaves.
