Toshiba L675 bios upgrade Ubuntu 1204

I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on virtual box and by default its 3D, but I believe from reading I have done I need to upgrade my Bios and again research has left me rather frustrated. Possibly age related comprehension

If they make a mess of the instructions and information anybody will have trouble reading it.
Where are you running Ubuntu, on your host or in the VM? Do they say you need to update the VM bios or the host machine bios?
