Hi all this is my first post so forgive my ineptitude!
I have a pc-chips m\b m741lmrt and am trying to update the bios. cable modem driver is crashing and error says maybe update bios. system seems to be from co. called PROTAC in Australia. have seen their site and found file 010221s.rom. PC-CHIPS site has update file as 010914s.rom which do I use. Have checked AMI site and cannot ID m\b manufacturer using their utility. 62-1025-009999-00101111-071595-000000 this the id that comes up using amimbid.exe. The bios date on bootup says 10\25\1999S, protac site (protac.co.au)seems to have latest bios date.
Also I saw a post about hdd using pio mode only in winXP and fix was to slow down transfer rate to udma33 instead of 66 using program. can i ask did this work and my seagate st313021a is doing same. I went to seagate site and got uata100d.exe I guess this is similar prog , and how do i use it??
This a great forum , I am learning much from this site. keep up the good work!

Cheers to you all :D

You have several issues here, so let's see if we can clarify.

1. You want a BIOS upgrade for the pc-chips m741lmrt.
Have you read the FAQ, and visited the PcChips website?

2. Your cable modem driver (do you mean NIC driver) is crashing?
Do you have the latest drivers?

3. Why would you want to use PIO mode only?

Please get first a positive identification of your Board using the Pcchips Lottery as you seem to be not sure about your board :

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear before. it was 2am when i sent in that first thread and having almost finished and ready to send the modem crashed and I had to start over.
My problem is
:? 1. Board is m741lmrt pc-chips, the company that imports and sells this board is called 'protac'. Have been to both web sites for bios update. they each have a different version of the bios. pc-chips use file name '010914s.rom', protac use file '010221s.rom'. I would prefer to use protac file as it has a release date of 21-02-2001. pc-chips desn't have a date and seem to have a bad reputation on this site for support so Iam loathe to use their update because of this. Also the pc-chips site only list the board as a m741lt , which they seem to say is the same as m741lmrt.
:( 2. the cable modem , motorola sb4101, though it works well, crashes the computer occasionally . Almost always when you are about to do something important. the crash is because of the driver 'netmotcm.sys' which I have the latest v2.0.0 or something. when computer crashes I have to do a reset and the error message (DOS style) says something about check for a later bios if this keeps happening.
 3. I can only get pio mode from my hard drive using winXp , the dma mode is shaded out, but can get dma using Me, I dual boot. I have read another thread where somebody else had same problem and said to slow down the hard drive . I cannot seem to find this tread any more to find out what he\she has done to fix this.
thanks for the reply!

Following the naming convention, the date for the PC-Chips version would be 14-09-2001. AJZ, one of the moderators on this site, is a PC-Chips expert and hosts a support site for PC-Chips older boards. I expect he'll be along to help shortly. The BIOS from Protac will be older; the fact that PC-Chips don't answer emails should not prevent you from using a later BIOS if it is likely to help.
Also the pc-chips site only list the board as a m741lt , which they seem to say is the same as m741lmrt.
I'm sure I read on the PC-Chips BIOS download page that they were changing their naming convention.

Please check the "Collected Wisdom" forum, post "Link to ATA mode setting utilities" to find the utility for your drive manufacturer.

me? ...expert?
Protac only provides the previous BIOS release. PCCHIPS has the latest, and is appropriate for your board:
ftp:// 210.17.18. 14 /BIOS/M741LMRT/

Regarding your UDMA/XP issue, I believe it's more of a "lack of ACPI support" issue, so you might requre a registry hack, or a particular release of your IDE drivers that manage to activate it, but I wouldn't advise doing so.

But, activation will be impossible if you don't do as NickS said. You'll have to downgrade your HDD's UDMA setting to match the highest one supported by your chipset.

Hello,

I have just one question:
I have recovered a 741LMRT from a friend, but there were not bios on it...
Could you tell me what it the chip (Macronix, atmel, intel...) and the exact reference (28F1000, ...), please ?

Thank you very much

It has 256KB BIOS - so most probably Winbond W29C020(C) or ASD AE29F2008 (which is the same chip). MAYBE Atmel AT29C020(A) will work too.

Hallo!

you can use every 2 MB FLASH with 32 pins. I use this Board for Hotflashing. I have used succsessfull 29C512, 29C,EE,F 1 MB up to 4 MB from AMD, SST, Winbond and an old P28Foo1 from Intel, what use 12 V for programming - without adapter!
Note to boot you need an 2 MB FLASH, but you can flash IC with diffrent sizes! Cange the boot ROM after boot and than start uniflash or old AMI Flash. This software must display the type of your canged flash, what you will program!

If you can flash the chip using UniFlash, it does NOT mean that you can flash BIOS in that chip and use it. BIOS needs to know how to write to the Flash ROM so it can update ESCD and DMI information.
