I have intermitent startup memory lock up, on-board SIS 6326 graphics wont work and manually adjusting clock multipier with Celeron400 gives all sorts of chip speed other than the expected and locks PC completely.

Examples of manual processor settings 75x4 = 300 but reported as 500 and PC freezes. (Most other manual setting result in 500mhz being reported)

I do suspect physical motherboard damage but want to try a BIOS upgrade to see if it helps.

So far:

I dont have PC or mother board manual.

Bios Wizard and AMI Bios ID both report the same BIOS string above showing it to be a PC Chips motherboard.

Bios Wizard also reports VIA 82C691 rev 2 Chipset.

PC Chips lotterey suggests that the board is an M760V and the pic of the board is identical. But BIOS upgrade is for 693 chipset not 691 shown above!

Downloaded latest AMI AMINF332.EXE Bios update file and 990402s.ROM file. (For 693 chipset!! - well may as well try it!)

When attempting to update file it is reported as incorrect size.

Further investigations shows 990402s.ROM file is a 128k file and Bios Wizard reports existing motherboard file as 256k.

Can anyone confirm board type and suggest correct BIOS update.

Chipset on the board is shown as BXT00. Not shown as VIA on the chip but informed it is a via chipset.

Some PC Chips motherboard BIOS updates are also shown for Via 692 but no 691 chipsets!

Spent several days now trying to resolve this.

Help greatfully recieved.

No not m730V BIOS reported as too large.

Finally got M760V 1.4 to work!

PC improved but not perfect. Have to do for now, new MB in a few months I suppose.

That does not make sense! In your first post there was a size mismatch because the BIOS wizard reported an existing 256K BIOS !

NickS,

There are two different BIOS files for this motherboard. One is for M760 Version 1.2 and the second is for Version 1.4.

1.2 reported too small 1.4 worked. I didn't initially spot there were two versions of motherboard. That, I assume, is why the second worked and the first (thankfully) mis-matched rather than trashing the MB.

Sorry for lack of clarity with my original post.
