Abit pr5r2 - upgrade guide

According to ABITs upgrade guide (http://www.abit-usa.com/bioshelp.html) you finish by clearing CMOS Data by moving a jumper on the MoBo and discharging Data. Is this a drastical solution or just the way to do it?

I suppose that afterward you enter bios and load setup defaults (gives best performance)? This IS possible with the new bios, right?

When flashing, ABIT recommend to use quite a few options - some, I believe is not adviseable - An example is the /sn option, which makes you NOT save the old bios. Which options should and should not be used
when flashing the abit pr5r2 MoBo and the award bios v4.5 - new(est) bios will be pr5_cn.bin (march 1998).

I can't find newer bios updates to pr5r2 than this. Has anybody had more luck/skill?

Best Regards,

Lars

There's patched BIOS available at http://wims.rainbow-software.org/ which supports HDDs up to 64GB.
You don't need to clear CMOS if you don't have problems. In most cases you don't even have to load defaults.
ALWAYS save the old BIOS before flashing - it's stupid that the /sn parameter is on the Abit site. Almost that stupid like their "GREEN PCI/ISA SYSTEM" text where they can put motherboard name like "ABIT PR5"...
