BIOS upgrade problem

I have upgraded the BIOS of my PC chips motherboard M572.
The old BIOS was 12/16/1997 S Release. The new BIOS is 02/24/1999 S Release.
Iam having the following problems
1) If I connect a 40GB Hard disk drive and give "Autodetect" the system hangs.
2) CDROM drive is not detected.
Note: With the old BIOS i was able to autodetect upto 8.4GB HDD and also CDROM drive.
3)If I donot give an autodetect 40GB HDD is recognised but sometimes CDROM drive is not recognised.
