i flashed the wrong bios, here i am. i was looking at my options, and have a few questions:

as far as trying to do the boot-block recovery, can i just use the
0404s-13.rom (the correct one i was supposed to use) and rename it to AMIBOOT.ROM ? or do i need to find that AMIBOOT.ROM elsewhere?

replacing the bios chip- the board has a 32-pin bios chip, and im having trouble removing it. do i need special tools, or can i just rip with pliers?

thanks for any replies

Rename the BIOS to AMIBOOT.ROM, put it on blank floppy and power up the machine. If it does not read floppy, try again while holding Ctrl+Home.

If the chip is DIP (rectangle with 16 pins on both longer edges), use metal cover from slot or a screwdriver, but you must be careful to lift both sides of the chip equally, so you don't bend or break the pins! Make sure that the power cable is unplugged before.

ok gave that a try, held down ctrl+home with the floppy that had the renamed 0404-13.rom to AMIBOOT.ROM, and what happened was a series of bios beeps (8)

the pc would beep 8 times, then pause, then beep 8 times again, over and over

not sure whats going on, thinking of buying a replacement bios chip for $20

but i dont want to.
any ideas?
thanks

If you don't want to buy preflashed chip, you can try the hot-flash method http://rainbow.ht.st/hardware/hotflash.html

8 beeps on an AMI BIOS usually indicates a video problem. Suggest you re-seat your graphics card in case it got knocked while trying to remove the BIOS chip.
