bios update on a SONY PCG FXA32

I would like to upgrade the bios on my laptop. I have already upgraded the O/S to WIN XP PRO and the sony bios flash does not recognize the puter. I don't want to have to uninstall and reinstall all the SONY garbage again just to upgrade the bios.

bios version R0107K5 (09/17/01)
MOtherboard SOny Corp Q3- Project version 1-A
Chipset VIA KT8363(A) Apollo KT133(A)
Any suggestions. I would also consider non orginal/ sony generated/ bios as I also would love to use a large harddrive.
