I have a Delta-L and AN7, both socket A.I have three BIOS chips (one with Delta-L, another one with AN7 and the last one, used as BIOS backup for Delta-L), all of them with a stick PhoenixBios D686 on them.

AS you know, Delta-L uses a 2Mbit BIOS, and AN7 uses 4Mbit BIOS.

So the question is.

I want now the Backup chip to serve now backup AN7 BIOS, so, will it suport the 4Mbit file?? Or all those D686 suports both 2 and 4 Mbit BIOS??


I will try to hotflash it.

It only depends on the type of Flashrom chip is used - you can't flash a 2MBit Flashrom with a 4MBit file and vice versa.

But how can I be sure if the chip size is 4Mbit??

I want to be sure before attempting to hot flash.

Why a 4Mbit chip can't be flashed with a 2Mbit (256KB) bios?

Just googled and found that my chip (Winbond w49v002ap) seems to be 2Mbit, so I can't use it to backup my AN7 BIOS.

But I still want to know WHy a 4Mbit can't be flashed with 2Mbit file.

Why I can't flash a 2Mbit bios in a 4Mbit chiP?

Is it possible for example to do a such thing to add a picture in the init for a mobo that doesn't have that by default??(of course doing the needed changes in the BIOS code).
