Desperately seeking BIOS for my American Megatrends AMI MOBO; Manufacturer : SOYO Computer Inc.

I have 3 PCs with this MOBO, and both Win98 & WinME are able to use the USB; however, the 3rd PC with WinXP shows a disabled USB with the infamous exclamation mark.
Running the Add Hardware wiz results in: "Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to...etc... To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update. (Code 35)"

Check your BIOS chip. If it's Macronix, choose the M version. If it's SST, then the S version.

THANKS for your prompt response; I've downloaded & I'm ready, but 1st, let me mention that I had previously flashed these MOBOs with this BIOS upgrade:
flash631 28 KB MS-DOS App 1/4/1999 2:41 PM
m668ds-6.rom 256 KB ROM File 1/4/199 2:20 PM
=====
The "new" BIOS upgrade files are dated 1998 v/s 1999, the "original" BIOS upgrade.

flash643 32 kb MS-DOS App 5/11/1998 3:33 PM
6kdx13-s.rom 256 kb ROM File 12/11/1998 10:10 AM

BUT I'm ready to do what I have to do to get XP to talk to the USB port.
Can I have your opinion? Should I proceed? Thanks...

Let's verify something first... Please check your motherboard for its model... There should be a sticker or inscription displaying SY-6KD (hopefully)... Is it so?

Anyway, very very true... Soyo's site hosts version 13 of the BIOS 8O , while you have version 14, which is also available from:

Googling "soyo stallion" yields; M Tech & Soyo; On April 15, 1998 M Technology and Soyo Computer will announce the Stallion BX
... The boards are available in both an ATX (Stallion BX SY-6BA) form factor ...www.mtiusa.com/msoyo.htm
There is no sticker nor any ID on the board; the BIOS chip reads:
868
AMIBIOS
1995
American
Megatrends
BE 05110

These MOBOs with bilt-in SCSI, intra-red ports, dual-processor support and AGP can run XP very nicely (maybe bcause XP takes advantage of both processors?) so I'm hell-bent on getting my USB back.

Thanks

http://www.mtiusa.com/ftp.htm now has "M668-007.rom&quo

I flashed with M668-007.rom, but lost the IDE channed (HD & CD) even after trying several options in SETUP (enable SMART, etc).

So I went back to the M668DS-006.rom flash, & I'm still out of USB.

Ideas? Fixes? Miracles?

I even talked with BIOS Central, but Gene sounded like a lost puppy.

the loop again

Are we sure we're talking about the same motherboards?

What flashrom do you have ?
Soyo list Macronix (MXIC) or SST as suitable Flashroms, peel the AMIBIOS sticker grom this chip and post what's written onto this.

Double- and Triple-check there's no model number written onto the board - very unusual for Soyo

USB not orking in XP is very much probably a software problem (ACPI implementation in Bios) or hardware malfunction.

purchase Flash BIOS Upgrade with Sureflash - Real or Scam?

My flash components are:
flash631 28 KB MS-DOS App 1/4/1999 2:41 PM
m668ds-6.rom 256 KB ROM File 1/4/199 2:20 PM

I use a WinME setup floppy to boot from, which won't recognize the HDs (NTF) but it does create a RAMDRIVE to which I copy the flash components then I type "flash631 m668ds-6.rom".

I'm getting an offer to purchase a Flash BIOS Upgrade from BIOS Central: Please click the 'Buy' button to purchase your new Flash BIOS Upgrade with Sureflash. We will email you a link to the BIOS Upgrade (less than 500K zip file) from flashupgrades@esupport.com \ $29.95

Is this for real?

Welcome to the club, I'd say :). That code 35 issue is caused by a missing MPS table entry, according to an MSKB article. (Thus Win98/ME won't have any problems, having no clue about multiprocessing at all.) Selecting MPS 1.1 instead of 1.4 should get you a working USB, at least if you're not using the ACPI multiprocessor HAL (which is unlikely with a BIOS that old). This comes at the cost of having to put up with old-style IRQs at <= 15 only. I have the same problem with this old but interesting i440FX dual Slot 1 board:
http://stephan.win31.de/686kdx.htm
I've been able to patch the BIOS to include current microcode for the CPUs supported along with far more tweaking options (thanks to AwardMod and Modbin), but have no clue how feasible an MPS table mod would be or where it resides in the BIOS to begin with - the MPS 1.4 spec wasn't much help. (I'm only a hardware enthusiast, not a programmer.) Well, the PIIX3 USB on my board is rather "b0rken" to begin with, but it sure would be interesting.
Oh, and I'd recommend using idle software (most notably CPUIdle) with an MPS HAL, as this does not feed unused processors with HLT.

Wait a second, asking Google... Ah, there it is:

The Multiprocessor System (MPS) table, which stores the resource assignments for the BIOS, is missing an entry for your device and has to be updated.
