USB Ports are not recognized by BIOS

I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RS250G with an ASUS P4SD-VL motherboard and AMIBIOS. The USB ports have not been working for a few months. I have installed the XP SP2, and have gone into Safe mode and have removed and then reinstalled the USB Controllers. In the BIOS, I turned off legacy support for USB, but the BIOS does not seem to recognize any USB devices plugged in. When I plug in a USB device the computer does not recognize it, and doesn't do anything. Any thoughts?

Are the USB Controllers showing up in the Device Manager after you reinstalled them?

yes...two of them are sharing IRQ 16. I don't know if that is an issue...

Might be because they are on a virtual interupt instead of a physical interupt. (Just a guess BTW.)
Do you have a BIOS setting for this?

When I go into BIOS, under USB Configuration, I see the following...
Module Version 2.22.4-5.3
USB Devices Enabled: None
Legacy USB Support [Disabled]
USB 2.0 Controller [Enabled]
Something is causing the USB 2.0 Controllers not to recognize any device. Perhaps it is the driver. Maybe they are corrupted.

Reset BIOS defaults for that page?

Do the USB devices show they get power through the connection ? Maybe there's something damaged if they don't get power via USB.
Try to disable USB2.0 controller, maybe it is working as USB1.1 then.

I disabled USB 2.0 Controller, and left the Legacy support enabled, but no change. I think I am going to back out the SP2 and see what that does.

At one point they must have...The USB ports worked at one point.

Since the USB ports are enabled in the BIOS and the BIOS is not recognising any USB devices, I am suspecting the USB ports on the board may have failed.

I booted Knoppix off of a CD, and have been testing the USB ports with a USB mouse, and I am not getting any response. I believe that may add to the credence that the USB controllers are fried.. Not sure how to resurrect them, however, I believe I may have a warranty on the system.

Thats also what I was almost about to suggest.
Making sure the ports were enabled and then doing a clean O/S install to test the software.
You have effectively just done that and have therefore further narrowed down the problem to the hardware.

Can you measure 5V on the USB connector...as Denniss is sorta suggesting?

I can definitely measure 5 Volts across the pins (actually it looks like its higher than 5V)...
