I have 2 ethernet adapters (one wired and one wireless) and one USB adapter. In windows xp professional, it comes up with the error code 10 (the device failed to start). I have tested these PCI devices in another computer and they work fine. My mother board is a Biostar M5ATC motherboard, I updated my BIOS and things still arent working out. Please help!

PCI versions of the cards in question?

I believe the M5ATC is PCI 2.1...please correct me If I'm wrong (going from memory here).

The NIC card specifications should tell you what version they are.

I'm looking for my motherboard specs...can't seem to find them at the moment... ...though I'm pretty sure the motherboard is PCI 2.1.

My motherboard does have the PCI 2.1 slots.

And the add-in cards...?

The addin cards are PCI 2.2, but they have been working in my computer before i reformatted my harddrive.

PCI 2.2 cards *should* not work in a PCI 2.1 motherboard AFAIK...

But the devices worked before i reformatted my harddrive. I reformatted my harddrive because of a Bios update that Jan made. Could the Bios update affect the add in cards?

Doubtful...but you can always flash back and find out!

Correct/up-to-date add-in card drivers, etc...??

Some strange BIOS setting perhaps?

Okay, I have found the cause for windows code 10. The probelem is in the BIOS. Here are the steps i used: Enter BIOS setup screen, highlight PNP/PCI Configuration, then highlight PNP OS installed change "No" to "Yes". This is how i got my hardware back up and running.

Interesting...

What IRQ's were the cards assigned?

The 3 cards are all assigned to IRQ #5. Do you know how I can assign the 3 cards to their own IRQ?
