Hi guys,

Looking to upgrade my BIOS (currently PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0, AR01 (11/24/03)) due to some compatibility errors with SP2.

MOBO is ARIMA W720-K7.

The problem is that this motherboard isn't even on the Arima website anymore, so i'm having difficulty finding out exactly what the update to the BIOS is, and also the right way to do it.

What flash program should I use? What BIOS should I upgrade it to?

I've been googling all day and I can't find anything.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Simon.

W720-K7 comes up as laptop board? What brand/model is the laptop?

Correct, it is a laptop. Apologies as I should have mentioned this.

It is a TPG laptop - a rebadge job by an Australian ISP.

Details as follows (retrieved using Everest):

Mobile AMD Athlon XP 2900+
Arima W720-K7 Motherboard
ATI Radeon IGP-320M Chipset
2 x 256 DDR SDRAM

Please let me know if there's anything else you need to know.

Thanks again,
Simon

Same as emachine M53XX. Same motherboard. BIOS update is now ME09. Goto this page: http://www1.medion.de/downloads/?lang=fr
and enter model number 40072 in the middle box (Modele de votre ordinateur portable ou de votre peripherigue) and click Rechercher -you are taken to a page where you can download the ME09 BIOS under the Reprogrammation du BIOS RAM 2000 heading.
Click on the Telecharger(download) to download the file. Double click on bioram2000.exe to extract the files to the C:\Median directory. Copy the files in C:\Median to a DOS boot floppy or make a bootable CD.
Boot into DOS using a USB floppy or create a CD with ONLY the files Command.com ,Msdos.sys and Io.sys And the files from the Median download. : DO NOT INCLUDE Config.sys ,Himem.sys or emm.exe as these memory managers will cause the update to fail.

Continuing my above post : DO NOT TURN OFF COMPUTER WHILE UPDATING BIOS!!!! If the update fails you will have to try BIOS recovery procedures. BACKUP your old BIOS : Use Uniflash at http://www.uniflash.org/download.htm to make a copy of your old BIOS.Don't worry if your chip is unsupported as uniflash will tell you what brand your BIOS chip is.

The batch extracted from the bioram2000.exe download is titled f.bat in the ME09 version. After you booted into DOS,run it by typing F and press Enter key. Then wait - don't touch the keyboard. The flash update should be done in a couple of minutes- when the machine stops rebooting and want you to press F2 to enter setup, the update is done. Set the appropiate options in the BIOS Setup, save your changes, remove USB or CD disk with the DOS/BIOSexe on it and boot. Good luck!

I have the update (BIOS [AR03] and drivers) that I obtained off the TPG web site before these files became inaccessible. Have this BIOS installed and causes no problems with Windows SP3.

Because of the size (approx 46MB) can post on CD or upload to domain if you would like to send me private message will indicate download location.

Cheers,
Richard.
