it appears that my BIOS is dead. I get the message
"checksum error - defaults loaded"
and there she stops ...
Pressing F1 or F9 or any other key does nothing.
Gigabyte M/B GA-7VM400M ver.1 PhoenixBios D888 Bios
The chip is soldered to the board which would make it Non-Removable
Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.

Tried another keyboard ....

Checked the socket that the keyboard plugs into for a "dry-Solder-Joint"
All OK .... Still No Go
Oh Woe is me ...

There is a slight possibility it is suffering from bad capacitors.

Please report back if this is the case so we can include it in the list of known victims.

If you use an USB keyboard you may have to use a PS/2 keyboard to enter Bios. If you already use a PS/2 keyboard you may try an USB one in case the PS/2 port is somehow shot.

Try a manual Clear CMOS by removing power from your PSU (unplug the cord) and pressing the power key on your case to unload capacitors in your PSU and motherboard. Then Clear CMOS by switching the jumper for 30 seconds.
