Programming 3v chips onto boards 5v chips support

Is it possibile doing it onto motherboards that support 5v chips and have not jumpers to switch to 3v ?
It will work or 3v chips will get fired?

Yes, 3V chip will die within a couple of days(or second if bad luck).
