ECS Award with Boot Block

Board: ECS MCP61PM-HM REV 2.2(It's a OEM board)

EDIT:Instead of being just another dead-end post on the Net, and since this board is rare but current, I thought I'd update this post..

First thing you should know is all BIOS images for this board are encrypted and loaded by WinFlash. This includes ones from HP/Compaq and other obscure and/or compatible source. It'd take excessive reverse engineering to get it extracted and formatted for the AWARD boot block program. Yes this board has Boot Block..ANY bad flash and the system still boots and checks IDE for a AWARDFLASH,EXE on a standard file system(no SATA or USB support..).

I attempted to crack the WinFlash program for this board that HP/Compaq provides(for w7 and vista only :( ). And it's got no strings or known instructions. I confirmed this under IDA Pro 5.6 AND FlexHEX. I'm also skilled by many years in reversing so it's not just a case of me not knowing what I'm looking at. That extentionless file WinFlash puts in tmp is the ROM, but it's encrypted and you can see the rebuilding routines in their PE/EXE files..

This info is 100% accurate, and any attempt to debunk it without and substance is just that, an attempt(fail). Take it to a shop and have it flashed, or their is a dealer on ebay out of California that ships them fast. The chip types are PLCC for < 2.0 and DIP-8 for > 2.0. It's as easy as unplugging your machine and popping the chip out, I did it by making sure I grounded myself to the case and popped it with needle nose pliers, and put the other in with clean fingers.

if the ROM file in its flashable form is available (you could copy that from tmp), you should be able to hotflash that file into your chip on another board, either by awdflash or by uniflash/flashrom.

bios files are compressed these days just like any exe on your system.
