hi, i have a dell e521 and surprise surprise the bios update failed. i now just get an amber light and no video signal, and a turbo fan. i've found a utility that i want to try to reflash the bios via floppy, but the floppy drive isn't being read on boot, and i think the bios setting is only looking for a usb floppy drive and not internal floppy drive.

will the system read a usb floppy drive in its current state?

i have a similar pc next to it (a dimension 3100) and the floppy drive works fine.

is there a way to activate the system to look for the floppy drive without access to bios, or are there other ways to rescue my pc?

i've tried removing CMOS and jumping the reset pins but no luck.

the bios chip is soldered into the board so i cant even remove it to get it reflashed. bad show for a 2007 pc. damn btx motherboards.

thanks, kris

Go to find a local cellphone repair guy, maybe they can help.
They usually do a lot soldering work.
Like this guy in Canada www.biosxp.com
