Soltek SL-75FRN: System froze when saving BIOS settings...

Hi!

I just bought me a Soltek SL-75FRN nForce2 motherboard and have experienced repeated lockups of my system since installing it. Read somewhere that the mobo has problems with .18 micron CPUs.

Oh well, my big problem is that the last of these lockups occured just somewhere during the 2 seconds it takes for the BIOS to update when saving settings in the Award BIOS screen.

Now my computer just dead. No video, no beeps, no nothing - just a few fans and harddrives making sounds when i press the power button.

Tried the trick where you remove all peripherals, including all Harddrives/CD-ROMs and AGP/PCI cards and try to get the BIOS boot block to boot a floppy diskette with an autoexec.bat that would auto-flash the BIOS, but floppy is all dead and nothing happens.

Any suggestions on what to do about my new and useless board?

Thxz

No, the system was unstable as it was, so I actually went into the BIOS to underclock the CPU..

I have found people with this problem on quite a few forums now, with several of the nForce2-based motherboards. Seems it is not very uncommon apparently. Computer freezes at the BIOS Save Changes and Exit? Y/N question and renders the motherboard useless...

Get it back to shop and have it replaced... You can also use hot-flash to fix the BIOS but most likely it will die on next save&exit.
