Can someone send me the image file or full BIOS for GIGABYTE board GA-6VXC7-4X? My motherboard is dead..

Pls help

If you go to

http://www.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/Pr ... XC7-4X.htm

then this will bring up the specs for the motherboard on Gigabyte's web site.

Double check that this is indeed your mainboard and then there is a BIOS link where you can download the latest BIOS for this board (only one listed - circa 2002).

However depending on what you mean when you say your motherboard is dead, I am not sure if attempting to flash this BIOS will help you - and it may be the same version you already have as well.

I have went to the website you specified. The bios file is the updated version, that's mean the original BIOS is in good condition with the Systiem BIOS present.

However, I have went wrong when performing the update and the whole BIOS was being overwrite(including System BIOS) by other model. The screen become black and not even a single beep.

I would apprecaite anyone with the same model(any revision) can save the BIOS image file and send to me.

I have a universal EPPROM programer that can write the file back to the chip.

Note : I have written to Gigabyte(Taiwian) Technical asking for the BIOS image file since 20 Nov 2003, however, I don't even have any reply from them.

The board on the website certainly looked like a match to the model you gave but I wanted to to double check it yourself just so that you were satisfied as well and not just taking my word from it; gathering from your reply it sounds like you did this?

How did you go wrong when you did the flash - accidentally sent through the wrong file or pressed something you shouldn't have?

Anyway - not sure what you want to flash now but if all you want to attempt is to reflash the same update as from Gigabyte's website, then I would simply go back to the site on a computer with Internet access, make sure again that you are looking at the correct board, make sure that you get a clean download, and try again, if the board will let you flash?

Let me know if you have any sucess contacting Gigabyte - I have never been able to get any response from them and have even heard that some wholesalers and distributors of their products are unable to contact them regarding problems and faults on new boards.

Kim, if you have an EEPROM programmer, download the correct file for your board from Gigabyte. There should be a BIOS image file inside it, size 128 Kbytes or 256 Kbytes (sometimes 512 Kbytes) depending on your board.
In the case of the board 6vxc7-4x it will be 6vxc7-4x.fc, 256 Kbytes. Rename it to .bin if you like. This is the binary BIOS image file - get it programmed into the BIOS chip.

Ritchie,

While I was updating the Bios, the system hang. The only choice I have is to reboot. After reboot, the screen become blank(dead) and no beep sound.

Nicks,

Those update at the Gigabyte website are not full version.

it did not contains the sytem bios(ie. the beginning portion of the Bios). It only good for update but not for dead BIOS.

You can use Hex editor to read the file and you will find the beginnig portion are all blank byte.

The only choice now is someone can save their BIOS image file and send to me. I will then burn it into the Bios Chip.

Another alternative is waiting for Gigabyte reply, but it seems like they don't even bother to look at their technical support website although they put it on the internet.

Kim, ALL Gigabyte BIOS updates are FULL BIOS releases. The zeroes are just unused portions of the BIOS.

ajzchips,

I have use EEPROM programmer to burn the chip with those BIOS update in GIGABYTE website. It can't work. i.e. the screen still blank and no beep sound.

I have read aonther model/Bios of the Gigabtye motherboard, I found that it was not zero byte at the beginning.

I search the internet and understand that BIOS is actually break into 2 portions. ie. the beginning portion is the bootlog portion.

wish I am right in this understanding.

I heard through a friend that Gigabyte boards had a lot of problems at one stage related to BIOS updates, and that basically after an update the board would be dead as you are describing. However from what he said this was generally a problem with updates that came on the CD shipped with Gigabyte boards rather than the updates available from the web site.

Considering that this could be your problem, have you got a saved or backed up BIOS from the board when you knew the board was working fine, or an older version BIOS for this board, that you could try, at least just to see if that gets the BIOS functioning again, and if it does, it you want to risk it/and/or/obtain the latest BIOS, you can continue to experiment to see if the updates from Gigabytes site will work.

The bootblock is actually at the very *end* (highest address block) of the BIOS. It contains routines to check and unpack the rest of the BIOS. The rest of the BIOS comes in several modules and these may be loaded anywhere in the ROM. For an Award BIOS, search for the utility cbrom (Award 4.x) or cbrom6 (Award 6.x) and examine the contents using "cbrom bios.bin /d", although this does not show you the map of the ROM. For example:

@Ritchie, updates (BIOS) aren't included in the CD. Only the flashing utility is, when included. Mobos are always shipped with the latest available bios in-chip.

The last file is extracted directly from other gigabyte motherboard. (not 6VXC7-4x).

The purpose is to show that the BIOS updated version in the gigabyte website are not the complete version. They somehow miss certain portion of the complete BIOS and is never good for someone like me with dead BIOS.

The only way to recover the dead BIOS is someone can save their BIOS image file and send it to me. I will then burn it into BIOS chip again.

Well, of course CBROM won't work. It's an AMI BIOS. It is still a complete BIOS, not a patch. Find AMIBCP if you wish to look at an AMI BIOS. Unfortunately I can't find a way of taking a screenshot with AMIBCP70, but the same principles apply; you will see a list of modules if you select "Edit BIOS modules"

Nicks,

You are right. I can see most moduls by using AMIBCP.exe

As I am not able to get the BIos image file and those in the Gigabyte website is not function for me. I have try to EEPROM another supplier-Aopen's BIOS (with the same CPU and chip set type) into the chip.

It works............

Unfortunately, the PCI graphic card is not function and I have to use ISA graphic card. (need to figure out what's wrong with that).

I would like to thanks all of your for helping to provide information/suggestion.

This topic should be closed now........

Thanks.....
