I have an HP 8750c Pavilion PC that doesn't want to boot and I can't even enter the bios. At start up, the screen goes to the HP logo and thats where it stays. My plan was to install windows xp . I've tryed entering bios using about all the keys f1 f2 del esc etc. and have unplugged battery to try to reset the bios with no luck. any help will be appreciated, Jim

Is this a new PC to you, or did you buy it used, try to flash it, etc...??

The Pc is new to me, (got it from a friend, and just the tower) I haven't tryed to flash it because I don't exactly know how and didn't want to make it worse thinking there might be a simple answer.

You should be able to enter the BIOS then by pressing F1/F11...

Are you are using a PS2 keyboard?

Did it work at your friends before you got it from him?

I finally got into the bios. I had to go and get the origional HP keyboard (model HP 6511-S) and a cheap serial port mouse. Installed XP ok. I then tryed hooking up my usb optical mouse and windows reconized and installed it ok but would not boot unless the other serial mouse was plugged back in. But I guess I can live with that for now. I haven't installed any service packs yet, and am wondering if i should upgrade the bios if there is one available. Thanks for your help and time, Jim

I had that problem as well with the USB mouse hanging the system. Any PS2 keyboard would have worked BTW...

What BIOS version is installed now, and what CPU...the original P-III 667?

My ex-girlfriend's kid has one of these, so I'm very familiar with all of its problems...

I haven't checked which bios version it is, but I'm sure it's the origional. I'm not even sure what the motherboard is because I could't find it stamped anywhere on the board. It does have the p-III .
When I was working on it earlier, After I got XP installed, and tryed installing my DSL modem to connect to the net. (Hoping to update everything) I keep getting an error message and it would shut down and restart. I'm not at that PC at the moment, when I get home I can probably give you a little more info. Thanks again..Jim

Looks like you have the original P-III 667MHz (5x133MHz) and the original v1.15 BIOS.

Certain versions of this motherboard (MEW-AM) do not like the 133MHz FSB...it will cause the machine to freeze. Does yours do this? I have the info on which motherboard versions are more prone to this, but I have to dig it out.

There are BIOS updates available, but personally I didn't use the last release because I wanted to retain certain features that were removed (in HP's infinite wisdom). I also upgraded so that I could replace the offending CPU with a newer, faster one that runs on a 100 MHz FSB (the fix to the above problem). You also get a video BIOS upgrade in the process.

I just got one of these today and if I knew it had all these problems I would have passed however I am stuck with it now and needing some help. Once I boot up after 5 mins or so the computer turns itself off and it takes a while to reboot. I bought this used computer for my kid but really don't want to give him a headache with this. Is there anyway to fix this problem?

Sounds like it is overheating.

Open up the case and blow out all the dust. Make sure that the CPU/case fan is operating.

I have blown out everything and I am still having the same problem.......after 10 minutes it just shuts down. Could it be a bad power supply/ bad heat sink/ no fan on processor just heat sink..........could the problem be there and the lack of a fan on the processor just a heat sink?

The CPU gets "fan" from the cream colored duct above it, which contains a large case-style fan. Is yours operating?
