dead mobo or cpu?

Hi,
I have a pc here which doesn't boot anymore (just a black screen - nothing else).
Am i right to think this signifies a dead mobo (otherwise i would get beeps signalling a dead processor)?
Only marks on the mobo are:
in between pcislots : sy-6ba+ III
chipset near processor says soyo
so did the other (was a sticker - nothing underneath when i pulled it off)
some chips marked ite...
It is a pentium 3 mobo.
thx

Thanks for the manual
I tried and cleared the cmos but still nothing.
So, mobo dead? (i might get another if maybe the cpu still works)

Power Supply OK?

think so, yes - there's a led on the mobo that comes on and when i boot up the cpu fan starts spinning
(only way to power down is to keep the button pressed for +- 5 sec)
i'm gonna try another power supply anyways later

same with other psu
just got some hope to find out if it's the processor or the mobo without a processor swap because ami actually has a beep code for 'bad processor'
however, if the cpu is dead i don't think the mobo will produce any beeps anymore
oh, i also checked the caps and 2 are bulging - i will not start soldering though unless i know at least the processor works
and there is still only one way to find out, i guess - try another cpu/mobo

Have you tried the following?
- disconnecting everything (disks, add-in cards, including video)
- taking the board from the case to eliminate a screw jammed under the mobo, shorting to chassis
- removing memory to force a "no memory" beep

ok, i tried that too - no go
P3 processor works fine in a friends pc
I guess this is another mobo down to bad caps

It is back alive!!
