System stops after showing disk/cdrom after bios-update

After memory test and correctly displaying the disk/cdrom information.
It displays an empty screen with the cursor at the left-up cornner.
Is this a problem of bios configuration or the bios is corrupted? I tried
to change the configuration but the result is the same.
The mainboard is Soltek SL-75frn-L. I updated the bios from version 1.3
to 1.6. I got the bios from Soltek site. When I enter the CMOS setup page.
It shows 'Phenix - AwardBios CMOS Setup Utility'.

This is not unusual if you didn't clear the CMOS after flashing the BIOS. Try doing that (you may want to note your current settings).

I did clear the CMOS a few times. I tried both method: by connecting
the jumper a few seconds and by pressing INSERT when power-on and
the pressing DEL to enter bios setup and then load the default etc.

OK...
- how long did you leave it with the blinking cursor?
- Does the HDD activity light come on while the cursor is stuck?
- Does the CMOS setup work normally?
- Did you do anything else to the PC other than upgrade the BIOS (e.g. possibly disturb HDD cables/HDD power connector - HDD may report details but fail to spin up if 12V is intermittent)?

I left it with the blinking cursor for several minutes. No HDD activity light
after the blinking cursor appears. CMOS setup works normally every time,
all the changes I made are saved correctly. I didn't open the case before
the probelem appeared. Also I tried to set the bios to boot from cdrom
and the other disk, all failed. Both hard disks and cdrom are detected corretly
before the blinking currsor appears.

Do you have an FDD? ->Will it boot from that?->Can you load CD drivers and read CD?
