Hey everyone.


My girlfriend has just recently purchased a new PC, and she's given me her old computer that broke down a while ago.

My problem is this;

On boot it sounds like it's trying to read from the floppy disk drive, whilst displaying ''Auto recovery function:'' and then ''Please insert BIOS file'' every 2 seconds.

She apparently tried installing some anti-virus software from a corrupted disk, her computer stopped working soon after.

Does anyone know what has to be done to fix this?

Hi mate.

From the sounds of it there is a bit you can do as long as this is your only problem.

The first thing to do is to get into the BIOS (usually by pressing Del on the startup screen). From here configure the BIOS so it doesn't check the floppy disk and tell it to boot either from CD-ROM or from your Hard drive - this is easy to do.

Other than that try restting the BIOS using the jumper settings or simply take out the battery for 10-15 mins. Once reset you will need to reconfigure it to how you want it to work.

Also, the other thing to try is to check the hard drive on another machine to make sure it is ok.

I can't get into the bios menu at all, like the error messages are displayed instantly.

so i'll take out the battery then?

That's the computer i'm having the problems with.

Okay, so i removed the battery and left it for a good 20 minutes, but to no avail, so i've taken it out and i'm leaving it for a longer time period, I honestly can't see that doing anything though.

for godsake, please help me you intelligent computer masters.

Got about the same problem.
there is a jumper on the mainbooard for "safe mode"
when i set the jumper i get the bios screen (automaticly)
options all LOOK correct.
but when i put de jumper in normal operations mode, it keeps asking for a floppy with bios image (witch when inserted it will flash in)

any idea what i'm doing wrong?

If the PC is asking for a BIOS file, then go get the latest version from the PB Downloads page, and follow the instructions there.

I used the latest version from PB.
made floppy and then copied bios file to AMIBOOT.ROM
wich system then automaticly flashes.
but after powerdsown cycle stil same, system keeps asking.

Where would this switch be, and what does it look like?

I can't find anything that resembles a switch, argh WTFMATE.

A jumper
wich is actually noting more than a few metal pins sticking out of the mainboard with a smal plastic tingy over 2 of the pins (with another bit of metal inside, to make a connection between the 2 pins)
We're talking milimeters here
