Hello,

My ECS K8T890 (AMI BIOS) is dead after a failure of BIOS upgrade. I tried floppy boot block recovery. but the harddrive won't access the floppy even though i press and hold CTRL+HOME.

Since it doesn't show anything on the monitor since it's death, i don't know if there is any instruction on screen after CTRL+HOME to force boot block update.

Does anyone have any idea how to save my board? Thanks!!

Is the chip at bottom left of this picture in a socket on your motherboard?
Can you tell us what numbers are on this chip?

Text On my BIOS: TN 36 1899

Yes. the BIOS is located at the bottom left corner. Here are all the text on the BIOS chip.

686
AMIBOIS
1999
TN 36
1899

After removing the sticker, the text printed on the chip is a logo followed by 3 lines:
LOGO: SST
49LF004B
33-4C-NHE
0540095-C

OK, that's a 49LF004B LPC (Low Pin Count) chip, equivalent to a FWH (Firmware Hub) and so it is probably not easy to fool it into thinking that the firmware is corrupt to force bootblock recovery.

On your motherboard, is the chip at bottom left of the picture in a socket? If so your best bet will be to remove and reflash it, (using hotflash, a flashing service or your friendly local technician), or buy a replacement BIOS chip.
