Restore on AC/Power Loss doesn't work

This may very well be a power supply / case issue, but I couldn't resist taking it up here, because people seem so knowledgable here.

I have a FIC VB-601-V motherboard running amibios QC6712 PCB 1.3.

I am trying to get the computer set up so that it turns back on automatically after an outage.

I have done this succesfully with other motherboards by setting "Restore on AC/Power Loss" to "Power On."

I set that setting in the bios for this one as well, but it didn't do what I expected.

With this motherboard: I cut the power, and wait for the power supply fan to completely stop. If I restore the power, nothing happens until I hit the button on the front of the case.

I will keep looking at the motherboard manual and playing around to see if I can get it, but if anyone has an insight, I thank you.

I've seen this on Abit SA6R board - in a server :(
Do you have the latest BIOS?

I am using the bios from the FIC site which was labeled as the latest one.

PCB: 1.3
BIOS: AMI
BIOS file name: qc6172.rom
BIOS version: QC617
Release date: 2000/3/10
Flash Utility: flash641.com

I've heard that for PCB 1.4 there is an ami AND an award bios available, but I don't know where to get those.

I'm not sure which PCB I should be using, there are 1.1 , 1.3 , and 1.4 possible. The motherboard string is : 61-0729-001121-00111111-071595-VT691-H.

Maybe the award bios would work better, if it's possible to switch, and assuming I can even find it.This machine was going to be used as a server, too, but maybe not if I can't get the full on power mode to work.

PCB version is version of your board - check what's printed on it and use BIOS that is for your version.

OK, it's PCB version 1.3 for sure (there's a little 1.3 printed on the board.)

So, I'm using the latest bios specifically for my PCB already.

The other power management options seem to work, just not the restore after power/AC loss.

Any ideas?

Rainbow, If you have time, could you check out my post in the "won't recognize my harddrive section" as well (same bios and mainboard?)

There's QF4129 Award BIOS for FIC VB-601-V boards but don't know what PCB version(s) does it support:
01/11/2001-693-596-W977-2A6LFF0AC-00
Version QF4129

Ok, I just downloaded the bios you wrote of. Unfortunately, there was no documentation with it specifying which PCB versions it supports. The fic support site is down for the time being.

I wonder: if I were to flash the bios with an award bios, when it previously used an ami bios, would the procedure to undo it if it didn't work be the same? I.e, would the ami bios boot block still be there which lets me do a quick flash by holding ctrl-home while turning on the computer and having a disk in the floppy with the old amiboot.rom file on it?

I just read through the bios section of the motherboard manual (it has sections for both ami and award bioses and for VB-601 and VB-601-V.) In the award bioses, the PWRON after PWRFAIL option is only available for VB-601 boards, not VB-601-V. The equivalent option in the ami bios is available for both boards, but maybe that is a mistake. Maybe VB-601-V just can't support it.

I'll write an email to FIC support about it.

Thanks.

The AMI boot block will not work because it will be reflashed with Award Boot Block.
FIC technical support would the best place to ask - wait until they server comes up again.
