Motorolla 68010 system needs DIPS 256k x 4 1m x 4

I am looking to upgrade an old motorolla based System I have.

I know it can take
KM44c1000 1m x 4 (I currently have 4mb of this installed)
or
M514256 256k x 4 (the old stuff that takes it to 1mb)

What I am wondering is would this system take 1m x 16? or do you believe since all the other modules are x 4 I would need 4m x4?
I would like to get 16mb installed or at least 8mb.

I was thinking that 4m x 4 might exceed the refresh of the unit but cannot find its max rate, otherwise 1m x 16 might work but it may "quarter" the ram due to unknown limitations.

I will have to buy the ram any way I go unless I can convert these surface mounted chips on simms I have to dipps. Anyone have pinouts for the various dipps and surface mounted ram chips?

Thanx
Ryan

You're not going to be able to plug a x16 device into a x4 socket.

Thanx for the link

I figured that out about the x16 quite quickly when I actually looked at them :)

Hmm, anyone know of any place I can order a small number of chips and not end up spending over $100? Heck, any place that has them even :)

I have been looking through the stack of 100+ simms that i have and all the 16mb simms have 24pin chips 4mbx4

Hmm, it seems that larger dipps need two extra address pins, I have gotten the 5 motorolla ram and 68000 reference books and I believe I can adapt a simm socket to the dips more easily than "finding" extra address lines as the simm only requires 9-11 address lines.

The chip it appears I would like to get ahold of is KM44C1000 or a compatible though I would only need four chips to test this unit.

Cheers
