Hi ,
My mother board is AMIBIOS(C)1996 ZX98-ATVER1.09(991216)
running PIII 500 Mhz.
I have 64+64 MB SDRAM installed on 2 slots.

I'm planning to upgrade to higher RAM
Whats the MAX capacity..? Is it 256MB and if yes can I install 1 single 256 MB SDRAM stick...?
Please let me know

Also , I plan to connect a higher capacity HD...80GB ATA.
Do I need to upgrade the BIOS? Where can I find the utility?

Thanks.

Zida ZX98-AT mainboard featuring an intel 440bx chipset i suppose. max. ram supported is 512MB in 2x256MB. please read the intel bx ram faq first!
here it is:
http://homepage.hispeed.ch/rscheidegger/ram_bx_faq.html

about the hdd: depends on which os are you using and if your bios hangs on hdd detection. if it hangs on detection just jumper the drive to be clipped for 32GB. if your os is linux (depends on the kernel version, not on the distribution!), windows 2k sp4 or windows xp sp2 the hdd will be detected by the os asking the hdd itself and not using the bogus bios information. if your os is something different you might run into troubles even if the hdd is detected as 80GB by the bios (driver issues, filesystem issues, etc.).

440zx chipset.
max ram is 256MB not 1024 like the 440BX chipset.

One 256MB module (maybe) or 2 x 128MB modules maximum.

Good

I Purchased and installed a 256 MB SDRAM module.
and used one of the older 64MB RAM on the other slot and is seems to have detected the 320MB as it shows in the BIOS around that much.

In the OS also it shows 319 something.
It is much faster now and XP Pro works good.
Also the HDD when set to AUTO mode , seems to detect the 80GB HD.

So all seems good now. Thanks for the advise.
Any suggestions for the BIOS upgrade..?
Do I actually need to...?
Just that I use a PCU USB card and sometimes the devices are not detected/installed. Not very important though...

The i440ZX is based on the i440BX and thus has the same limitation, max 256MB per slot with i440BX compatible sticks. As i440ZX only supports two slots it has a max memory of 512MB
