how do i know info about motherboard and chiposet on my pc

i have a pc with p41.28Ghz processor. i would like to upgrade the processor and ram. how do i know info about motherboard and chiposet on my desktop. how can i find out whether the current motherboared supports new processors like p4 2.8 Ghz or more.
