Dell Inspiron 5100 & 5150 motherboard identities

How can I tell if a motherboard that has been sold to me as one for a Dell Inspiron 5150 is not for a 5150. I have been told that it is a 5100. I am unable to boot up either because of other problems with the laptop. Is there a site that will help identify them from serial numbers or other identifiers on the boards?
