I went to the site
http://www.fic.com.tw/product/motherboard

and found my motherboard, BIOS FIC VC31

Current System Bios says IED42, and in the site the name IEA45 is the latest one

However, I think in my current bios the name is wrong, Its IED42, but its supposed to be IEA42,

I tried to update the bios but it says

The program file's BIOS-Lock String does not match with your system!

so what can ido?

Either it's a typo in the version number or you do not have a retail mainboard but an OEM version in a HP, Compaq or similar system

but how can mine be newest when my version is IED42??

The latest one is IEA45 and i installed it already, and i am up and running

However, the emachines recovery CD does not work anymore, i mean i load windows, but windows will not work from the recovery CD

i have to use the Windows XP CD from Microsoft itself

So what can i do to fix that?

IED Bios is a special OEM Bios for eMachines, IEA Bios is the retail Bios. It may be for the same motherboard revision or not, sometimes it works installing a retail Bios instead of the OEM Bios but not always.

To get the Recovery Cd working you need to reinstall the OEM Bios. But as you have a verifyable XP license you should be able to install XP from a standard XP install disk, even a copied one, but you need to use your serial number as seen on your M$ certificate.
