I have just aquired this rather ancient and obscure IBM Aptiva and I am hunting down the manufacturer of the motherboard. I have attempted to install a 40Gb Western Digital IDE HDD and no matter what jumper settings i have it on, the thing will not recognize the HDD. I was going to attempt to get a BIOS update and see if that solves my problem.

Any help in finding this update will be greatly appreciated.

I think we can manage to patch the bios but we need either a backup made with uniflash http://www.uniflash.org or the series/model of that Aptiva (xxxx-xxx code as found on the back or side of the casing).

Should be USI Pro260 xx/xx/xxxx-SiS-530-6A5IMU1AC-00 so I hope you misread the string, else something's wrong with your bios (or maybe Shift-V instead of Ctrl-V?)

After you have flashed it it should look like

11/03/2000-SiS-530-6A5IMU1AC-00
Tupelo BIOS V1.8 11/03/2000
