Cyrix Media GXM SDRAM config ?

Hi,
I am using Cyrix 586 media gxm-AV 266 Mhz. The bios is by American Megatrends ,1997.
This is something which has puzzled me for a long time until I found this site and decided to post this query:-
There is " ENABLE GXM SDRAM OPTIONS " ----YES/NO
BY default it is disabled.
If enabled the following options become active
(VAlues which are valid)
CAS Latency -------------- 1 - 7
tRC Bits 24-27TIM1-------- 2 - 8
tRAS Bits 20-23TIM1------- 1 - 7
SDRAM Clock Ratio -------- 2 - 4
SDRAM Clock Shift--------- 0 - 3.5
I have tried enabling this option and putting various values but whenever I have done it my computer hangs before it even tries to load windows and I have to reset my original settings .
Is there some settings which is the optimal setting. I have 192 Mb SDRAM installed.
I did not try to flash for a later bios as the bios is surface mounted, hence to be on the safer side.
Also the VESA memory is limited to 2.5 Mb (Max, Shared) .
Is there any other way by which I can increase this Video Memory?
I would be very glad if someone could help me.
