3-4 devices sharing the same IRQ?!?!?

Hi.

I was having this problem with WinXP and now with Win2K.

I have 3 devices sharing the same IRQ (11) and when I Enable USB from BIOS that also shares the same IRQ. I have tried moving my devices to different PCI slots but the problem is still there.

The other thing is that Windows won't allow me to change those settings, neither will BIOS give me manual control over IRQ settings.

My mobo is a Shuttle AV61. Any ideas?!

Thanx!

Welcome to the wonderful world of ACPI.

Don't worry. I have 6 devices sharing IRQ11 in my Win2K, namely:
1. ATi RAGE FURY 16MB (AGP VGA)
2. Adaptec AHA-2940U2W-Ultra2 SCSI (PCI)
3. ALi USB Host Controller (onboard)
4. OPTi USB Host Controller (PCI)
5. Creative SB Live! (PCI)
6. Leadtek TV2000 Video Capture (PCI)

Absolutely no problems here, except some occasional jerky movement when watching DVDs and other videos when my SCSI disks are accessed (Adaptec's SCSI cards are quite bus-hungry), but practically solved after a SCSI BIOS update :)

Note: when I had a SUPRA modem (PCI), before moving to ADSL, it ALSO used IRQ11, so that totalled 7 devices. And everything worked ok.

I forgot to ask: what "problem" are you actually experiencing? Or you're just worried about devices sharing the same IRQ?

Problems...

System crashes, reboots, freezes, or won't boot. Also, corrupt files, explorer errors... these are some of the problems! :)

Why don't you try installing with ACPI disabled? Although I wouldn't really recommend that, but you'd then be able to manually assign IRQs.

Which cards of yours are sharing IRQ11? I used to have problems until I updated my SCSI card's BIOS.

I'd update your motherboard's BIOS, cards' BIOS (if applicable) and drivers, etc.

Have you tested the memory? Get some drivers and patches for the VIA chipset.

Well, with ACPI on, enabling USB in BIOS caused my system to restart right when Windows was about to load.

Replacing ACPI with Standard PC seems to have fixed the problem! Any thoughts on this...?!

Also, there's an option in my BIOS for "MS IRQ Table." What exactly is this?

Cheers,
Phoebus

With a VIA chipset, ditch the SB Live.

Soupy.... I think you got our boards mixed up :)
