installed new video card w/o graphic improvement. bios upgrade was suggested. attempt to upgrade bios with dell's 4500-Ao4.exe fails. opening msdos file creates a blicking curser without any further data . pressing key bumps up ntvdm.exe process to 100% . 1. is it risky updating bios 2. if recommended, where and how can i upgrade from original intel D845EPT2 model? please advise

You are limited to use Dell/s version of their Bios - usually Intel version does not work or dos not work reliable .
Make sure you follow the Bios Update instructions by Dell .

Usually these files try to create a bootable floppy neede for the update unless Dell has a Windows-based upgrade system
