Hi :!:

I have a GVC motherboard with a 1996 AMI BIOS. I bought a 40GB HDD but the BIOS doesn't recognize it.
I've been looking for a BIOS upgrade, but I found GVC had merged other companies. I've tried looking in BCM and LITEON, but I cannot find an upgrade for the BIOS.
Beside this, I can't identify the mobo's model.

The BIOS string is:
62-0303-001259-00101111-071595-SIS5600-1S560000-H

If anyone can help me I'll be realy gratefull
Thanxxx :!:

BTW your BIOS date is 03/03/1999 really.

And now...

OK

Thanxxxxxx for te info, but... is it trustable?

I said this because the date in the BIOS screen said 1994 or 1996 (can't remember now). Beside this. What can I do now? I wont be able to use the new HDD.

Try entering HDD parameters manually instead of using auto-detection.
16384 (or 16383?) cylinders
16 heads
63 sectors per track

I'm Fu###d

Ok this is my situation after all your help and all my research:

-The BIOS doesn't seem to have an upgrade.
-If I set the disk parameters manually, the BIOS will recognize only 8GB
-I can use a Western digital software to force to recognize the full capacity, but I afraid. I never used it before.
-I can buy an interface card that recognize the disk, but I have no more money
