problem with my hard disk

hi, i have a problem with my maxtor 30GB 7200RPM,the problem is when i power on the pc it stay at the startup screen with nothing just testing the ram memory and about 3 minutes it dispay"primary master drive fail",so i reboot it and then the pc power on and it recognize the hard disk and then continue to load windows,what's the problem with the hard disk ,and could it be repaired or should by another H.D.
