Hello:

I was wondering if anyone knows who manufactures this chip and where I could pick one up. I think the maufacturers code is mx but could not locate any info on the logo. The only place I've been able to find info on the chip is at usbid.com ( I found the ic but would have to buy over 400 of them with a minimum purchase of $500.00 ). I just need one.

Is there a similar chip I could use instead and if so how do I find out?

This bios chip is out of a Soyo sy-6vba 133 with an Award bios ( 693-596B-977-2A6LGS2CC-00 ). Soyo will reflash the chip at a cost of $15.00.

If anyone has a suggestion as to a different way to go about this it would be most welcome.

Thanks

It's a Macronix 12V 2 Mbit part and Macronix will tell you it's obsolete, they don't make it any more. If the problem is that you failed to flash it, you could:
- try hot-swap flashing it in another board:
http://www.pppr.sk/rainbow/hardware/hotflash.html
- try a local electronics shop which might have an EEPROM programmer

or ask Rainbow what the best hope is for an equivalent.

Winbond 29C020 or 29EE020 should work on 95% of mainboards using 256KByte Flashroms
Maybe try www.badflash.com or similar sites

15$ doesn't sound that bad compared to the other options listed.
