Building new hardware with your own BIOS

Hi!
I am looking for information for trying to do:
1) Build a new ISA board that includes its own BIOS. Actualy that is a mini data adquisition board for training already built. I would like to provide it with a little bios so the board could be set up during PC start up sequence
2) Replace an existing BIOS with a BIOS I would like to write myself. In fact I just want to write little snipets of code for training in the lab.
I would like to get your oppinion/info about this two things. Thanks in advance
Oscar
