I installed RedHat Linux on a seperate HD on my other machine and did my work. Now I turned the computer off, came back an hour later and put my origional HD in. I boot her up and what do i see?
AWARD BOOTBLOCK BIOS v1.0
BIOS ROM Checksum Error
Detecting floppy drive A media
insert system disk and press enter.
I have an Albatron PX848PV/Pro and i've tried EVERYTHING! I work at a small computer repair shop fixing minor spyware and virus's but never any indepth BIOS.
How the hell do i boot my pc
I've searched google all day and had a look on your forums yet to no avail. If anyone is willing to help it would be very appreciated.
Cheers,
Nick

It's looking for a bootable floppy, so try flashing its BIOS then.

Also check if the memory is OK.

Thanks for your replies!
I half knew i had to flash the bios - just needed some reassurance
Anyway, I got the utility off the Albatron site and put it on a floppy, I then started my computer and got the same thing:
Code: Select all
AWARD BOOTBLOCK BIOS v1.0
BIOS ROM Checksum Error
Detecting floppy drive A media
Drive media is : 1.4MB
Remove all disks and other media
Press any key to restart
*remove disk*
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
I rekon my BIOS is just stuffed
Any suggestions as to what I should do?

Hi,
the Boot Block BIOS is requesting flash recovery.
Most probably there's some hardware causing the issue (memory) or the System Block / Main Block of the BIOS is corrupted.
Restore the BIOS by using flash recovery routine for Award BIOS:

Try another floppy/floppydrive/fddcable.
If your ob floppycontroller is bad then you're in really bad luck since there seems no way of recovering possible in that case. Only a hotswap or new BIOS chip could be a solution.
Btw: there are also v6.00PG Boot Block BIOS'ses that may request a CD, DVD or Hard Disk with the recovery stuff on it.
This is, however, only for some newer boards (2003 or later I guess).

Hi, ive had a similar problem.
But is just says "Flash Recovery" and nothing else happens.
I have a KT600 with a Barton XP2600 and this error does not occur when un plug my ATI 9600XT. But it happens when i plug in my GF6 6600GT.
Is it possible that the power supply (300 watt, which i know its waayyy too low for this system) can cause this proiblem?.
I checked the 4 leds in the back and looked at the motherboards manual and it says it gets getting hanged up at the "Boot Attempt: This will set low stack and boot via INT 19h".
Please help, and thanks in advance.

Most likely it is the power supply.
What's the Ampare rating at the +12V rail?
You should have at least 20~25A @ 12V for adequate power (the wattage of most psu's isn't relevant: for example, a 350W Enermax PSU powers up to 27A@12V while a 550W Qtec has only 15A@12V).

i tryed 2 power supplyes. one has 12a and the other 13.
that should be it. ill let you know when i try a better power supply

.
I have a 650watt (or at least supposed to be) that says it provides only 16a to the 12v line. Is that possible?

i forgot to tell.
i also have 2 Hds. one is 40gb maxtor 7200 IDE, and another 160gb maxtor SATA, and a liteon dvdrecorder.
i add this because they also sum up to the power consumption.
