Virus in Bios or Firmware

I am currently having a fight with a computer that keeps having a virus even after formatting. That's why I am already suspecting that the bios or the firmware of a piece of hardware might be infected. Unfortunately I don't even know if that is possible but I would be glad if somebody could offer help.
Can flash memory be corrupted in a way that it creates virus files on your hard disk???

I think the BIOS is not subject to "random error that creates virus".

However, injecting a virus-like code into the BIOS IS possible. Frankly, it's quite easy to do  . But some prerequisite must be adhered to before that kind of code injection is possible, such as the BIOS chip must not be write-protected during the code-injection event.

It's very unfortunate that I can't tell you more about the details coz it's an NDA stuff for me.
