Is BIOS Password Set

Hi All,
Im developing a sytem hardening reprting system wherein Im done with all the things but one. The only one left is for checking "If the BIOS Password is set or not". Can you people please help me perform this task. I dont have any intention of cracking the BIOS password, rather I just wanna check if the password is set or not. The language or technology could be any, with an only restriction that I want to perform this test on machines with OS Windows 2000 (or Xp or 2003).
Any help in this regard will be great and if I can get a code segment in asm or any other language, it will be a great help
