Dell Vostro 1520 [Laptop] BIOS - Non-OEM Battery Not ID'd

Well, I got a non-OEM replacement battery online for my Dell Vostro 1520, but the BIOS "can't identify" it, and thus it won't charge ... now I'm not 100% sure that the battery isn't defective, but I wouldn't put it past Dell to "cook" their BIOS so it would only charge their batteries. Considering this, I was wondering what I would need to have, know and/or look for to see whether or not this is the case for my particular laptop, and if so how I might create a custom flash to circumvent a despicable manufacturer lock-in like this?

Getting the replacement battery to work in your laptop is the responsibility of the battery manufacturer if they claim it is compatible with your laptop, otherwise you can ask for a full refund as it is not working as advertised.
