Hi,
I've a problem with my Acer Aspire 1700 (17" laptop).
When I try to install Windows 7 the Aspire gives a BSOD.
The info it gives is: "BIOS is not fully ACPI compilant"
Even a Win7 pre-installed HD ends in a BSOD with the same message.
So, please...
Is there someone who can help me??
The latest original BIOS-update I could find on the Acer website is installed.
I tried to post the URL but I got this message:
Your post looks too spamy for a new user, please remove off-site URLs.
The installed BIOS is 3c13

This issue can spring up if you are using memory sticks with different speed grades in one machine. If this machine has had a memory upgrade, please check all memory sticks are of the same grade, e.g. all sticks are DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 and not a mix-n-match of PC2100/PC2700/PC3200 sticks... I agree the error message is throwing you off completely but this is a likely cause...

Thanks for the tip!
I'll try if it works and I'll let you know. (I hope that I can find some time to try it today)

Today I've tried, but no succes.
First I removed one of the memory modules.
Then I tried to install but I got a BSOD.
Then I took the other memory module and changed them, with the same resuld.
So, maybe..
Is there someone who has a bios-mod to help me to get rid of this @#$% problem??

After a long search I found a biosupdate
, the 3C14, and it seems to be possible to use it on my aspire 1700 laptop.
Is there somebody who tried this update, or somebody who can confirm that it's possible to use this update without distroying the MB.
Please let me know.

It is listed for the aspire 1700 on the acer website:
ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/a ... /v3C14.zip
however, that is still dated 2004 so there is still no guarantee whatsoever it will work with windows 7 as that was released long after that. This laptop is OLD in computer years...

This laptop is OLD in computer years...
Yes, I did know... It's a fossil...
I got it (for free
) because the last owner couldn't install Win7.
Maybe you can understand now that it's a sport for me to get the job done..
So now I know that it's possible to update the bios that's the first thing I'm gonna do.
I'll let you know if it worked.
To be continued

Here I am again......
The bios is flashed succesfully to the 3c14 version and everything is working fine again.
On Windows XP....
Even after a biosflash I got the same BSOD when I try to install Win7.
But my fossil runs on a P4 processor (3.06Ghz, FSB 533Mhz) and has 2Gb PC2700 memory.
With these specs it must be possible to run Win7, or isn't it???

Based on the raw hardware specs, yes. But there may be something wrong. Use this:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... de-advisor
and report what issues it finds.
