My system is WinME

Thanx a lot in advance & Happy New Year 4 all of ya!

PS: A German answer woul be more than GREAT !!! :P

If you need some new drivers your chipset seems to be a SIS630

Chipset drivers :
http://driver3.sis.com/agp/agp117.exe

VGA-drivers :
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/misc/vga ... _w9xme.zip

Thanx, but at that address I found 3 different zip-files (WebBoyBIOS107G.zip; WebboyBIOS108G.zip; webboyDMI.zip).
So which one is for me? And what do I do with them?

I would appreciate if you could give me some kind of step-by-step instructions. I really don´t know how to flash/update the bios, sorry.

Greatings!

Well, the following dates apply:

DMI: 28/09/2000 (=version 1.03G)
107G: 18/01/2001 (=version 1.07G)
108G: 14/03/2001 (=version 1.08G)

....you choose :-)

Anyway, flashing is easy in this case. Simply format a bootable floppy diskette and copy (and overwrite) the files with the contents of the zip file, and boot your PC with the floppy.

So let´s see if I got it right:
I should unzip the content of "108G: 14/03/2001" to a formated floppy than boot from it. That´s it????
And what is the "DMI" for???

Proper support for DMI may not have been present in previous releases.

Desktop Management Interface. Don't sweat it; if you haven't missed it up till now it's not going to do you any good.

If your laptop is working fine, I'd advise not flashing. Download and archive all the BIOSs available, and keep them until you actually need to upgrade. (Like say, for example, when you want to upgrade to a REAL operating system. :D )

The problem is that I have no clue when (and if) I need to update, but I found out that my BIOS is dated 1995(!). And there are many features in it I can`t access (the`re grey).
I might upgrade to WinXP. Is that a REAL OS???? :-)

That is the bios core date (071595). Your bios release date is newer. Some bios ID program makers still have no clue which date to look for.

If they're grey they are there for information only and set for optimal values. Leave them alone.

= the values, not the bios.

You might want to try and install XP, then if it doesn't work upgrade the bios and try again. As always with major upgrades of some sort: make a good backup of your stuff.
