IBM Thinkpad 600E BIOS problems 163+173

First off, if I can't get this piece of crap working it's going to bug me to no end!

I get the BIOS error codes 163 and 173. The system itself *WILL NOT* let me even get into the BIOS. I hate it. I hate this thing so much. I cannot even boot a CD or anything. It is stuck in some primitive BIOS error loop in which I can do *NOTHING*. It shows a "cave drawing" of a circle and a line. Why? Why the hell is it showing this? To reboot? Then it does the same thing over and over again!

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

First: Count to ten... ;))

Then: Power the thing off.

Now, power on WHILE HOLDING DOWN the F-1 key. This should get you into the 600e BIOS...

ps- I'll take it off your hands for a twenty... ;))

Most likely, you have dead CMOS backup battery. Replace it and try again.

You are right

163 - time and date not set
173 - configuration data was lost
