Doesn't know if any of the above say anything about a model. I would expreciate if anyone could identify the modell and also maybe point me to the latest version. Current version (in use on my laptop) is 1.0H. I have a dump of the BIOS in a bios.bin-file if anyone wants to check it out!

Looks like a FIC laptop made for NEC. Sure it's 5600 and not 5060?

Yepp. I am positive. It is labeled 5600XT on a white label and only 5600 on a black label.

I looked at ftp.fica.com (I think) and there was a 55xx with similar BIOS-version naming but without knowing for sure that I should download a FIC-version or not I don't want to try! :-)

Also, in Sweden this laptop was sold as a Lap Power 5600(XT). Lap Power in Sweden is famous of using Clevo, Chicony, etc etc. Never seen them using FIC tough.

Could there be anything 'hidden' in the bios.bin ?

"Active 5000 Series" - don't know if that says anything. The files are non-downloaded tough! :-(

Sincerly,

I think so:
NOTE BIOS Version /0000004L
Bottom of the system.
FIC
01/01/1980.
PC-VP-WP11.OP-570-7002
PC-VP-WP10.OP-570-7001

In BIOS Setup I also found "another" version besides 1.0H.

Code: Select all

0119-6208
On http://y2k.nstl.com/asp/companyInfo_include.asp?id=218 you see:

Code: Select all

FIC 5600 PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0 BIOS Version 1.0A-0119-6208/083A0F00 9/20/98
On http://www.hddex.com/hddex/nec.htm there is also a few mentioned.

On http://www.soton.ac.uk/~sucsweb/software/Elonexy2k.htm a specific FIC model is also mentioned.

Code: Select all

Soliton PII FIC Phoenix 1.0B or 1.0D 0119-6208
Still... Where can I find a _newer_ BIOS than 1.0H that I already have ?
