I am reading your excellent posts always.
I have a question about increasing mmc-2 PIII CPU Multiplier.

I read it from intel homepage, mmc-2 PII CPU Multiplier is not incresed by hareware changing.
It was programed into the CPU when it was made. Is this same for PIII?

If it is same What do you think about increasing CPU Multiplier by programing chaging?
If it is possible May be it must be very powerful overclocking methods.

MMC2-packaged PIII's are all multiplier locked. Older 450 ... 500MHz parts have one multiplier, whereas newer SpeedStep processors have two multipliers. As a default, lower multiplier is selected upon boot. Higher multiplier can be selected by hardware. Intel is using a special SpeedStep controller IC to control the multiplier selection and Vcore voltage selection. How SpeedStep controller functions is unknown, because Intel does not give any specific specifications on it.

Therefore, in principle answer to your question is NO for older PIII's and MAYBE to newer SpeedStep PIII's. MAYBE means that there propably is a way to select higher multiplier by software, but how to do it is unknown.
