IBM Thinkpad 600e Type 2645 4au Hard Drive Problems

Have a laptop 600e the system crashed so i had the hard drive tested it was bad. Bought a new 40 GiG hard drive and put it in. Loaded Windows XP created a partition and then formatted the partition using NFST. Formatting went good. Started to load installation files on the hard drive then it asked me to reboot I removed the disk and i get A disk read error occured and that a far as i can go does anybody have any solutions for me it would be great.

Ran Easy Setup Everything tested ok
