TravelMate4000M troubleshooting

I have a Travelmate4000m (bought in 1995), and it is not booting up. I have not used it for a while, so it may have been corrupted by another user. When I turn on the computer all I get is a "missing operating system" notification. I have misplaced my system disks, and am currently located in Africa where back up services are minimal. Any suggestions as to how I can get my computer to work again ?
