System: Sony Vaio PCG-F403
O/S : Windows 98 SE
BIOS Version : Phoenix Bios R0114K1/RK114K1
Flash Utililty: PhoenixPhlash Utility 4.0 Release 1.49.2AI.7

I 've been trying to upgrade my system to window 2000 Pro but failed during O/S installation, error msg " the file dmio.sys is corrupted'. I thought I needed to upgrade my bios to win 2k first b4 I install the O/S. I used the above PhoenixPhlash utility with the rom bios file W2K05K1.ROM to flash the bios but kept getting this error msg " file open failed on platform.bin". I tried this in DOS and windows and it gave the same error msg. Pls if anyone has come across this problem or knows of a solution, I would appreciate if you would share it with me.

Got this from a hardware support consultant.

run the following command in a true dos environment

Code: Select all

a:\phlash W2K05K1.ROM
You can find a procedure of creating a bios boot disk at
http://www.unicore.com/techsupport/award/bootdisk.htm

Hope this helps!

I followed the procedure but this time I get another PhoenixPhlash Error msg: " Open failed on BIOS ROM iimage file". Is there anyway to tell what type of rom chipset my system uses? I'm thinking this rom image file does not support my system.

Where did this W2K05K1.ROM bios rom image come from in the first place?
